Advent invites us to slow down and pay attention—to look for God’s presence breaking into the world in small, quiet ways. In a season that rushes toward Christmas, Advent is counter-cultural and teaches us to wait with purpose, to prepare our hearts, and to look for the light that is already growing among us. This year, as our parish anticipates the celebration of our 175th Anniversary on January 4th and imagines the future God is calling us toward, Advent feels especially meaningful.
Throughout the month, we’ll gatherfor practices that help us hold onto hope: making Advent wreaths and lighting candles at home, exploring the story of Jesus’ birth through our Nativity Gallery, and reflecting on overlooked characters in the nativity during Sunday School as well. Our Sunday worship will carry us steadily toward Christ’s birth, inviting us week by week into deeper waiting and expectation.
In the middle of all this, we’ll also take time for extra joy on December 14th with a parish Christmas party with soup, salad, a photo opportunity, and plenty of hands-on activities. opportunities for fellowship, and moments simply to rest with one another. I hope these offerings enhance this counter-cultural season, giving you the gift of pausing with your faith family to anticipate the arrival of our Lord. May this Advent draw us closer to God, to one another, and to the hope that does not disappoint.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Dana
